Using the senses to soften
Using the senses to soften
Amongst the constant to-do lists and insistent push for productivity, taking time to decompress is a quiet rebellion of self care. After being "on" all day, it's important to shift gears and give yourself the invitation to rest, the space to breathe, and the gentle pull to soften. To prioritise spaciousness for ideas, for contemplation, for the imagination to wander, this is where the juiciness resides.
I often find our senses are an anchor, guiding us back to our body.
001. Touch
Hold or be held, movement, submerge in the ocean, get your hands in the garden, breathe (deeply), bathe, create.
002. Scent
Light incense, essential oils, light a fire, bake.
003. Sight
Light candles, clear your space, find a horizon, get lost in a book.
004. Sound
Listen to a new playlist, nature’s soundscape, sing, brown noise, guided meditations, talk to a friend.
005. Taste
A herbal blend from your naturopath, warm tea, a sweet treat, smooch your lover.
A invitation to arrive home to yourself.
This nest of mine,
physical and figurative,
An open-armed landing place
my body longs for.
The clogs steady,
Limbs unfold,
Spaciousness,
like a blanket for the bones,
while tea sits steeped in the offing.
I’m sure now, that the flower blooms
not as it reaches it’s peak,
but the moment shortly afterwards
When it finally, let’s go.
